Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement

Along with my friends Bear Morton and Christopher Folkerts, we have just finished the “Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement”, a favorable statement in response to the introduction of the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act of 2019 by Rep. Heather Scott and Rep. John Green.

Here is the link to the full statement. Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement

If you are willing to help, would you please pray with us that we can communicate this statement to every evangelical, biblically ordered pastor within the state of Idaho would at least hear of this statement and then, when lead by the spirit of God, be willing to sign the statement.

Pray specifically for Rep. Heather Scott and Rep. John Green. The two state representatives have been under great opposition already by fellow lawmakers. Pray that God will strengthen them for this day.

The movement of bills can sometimes move very fast, sometimes with only a day notice of when the bill is ready for public hearing. It is paramount that we act now to communicate to the State of Idaho lawmakers that we, the people, want a hearing on this law.

More ways you can help:

  • Email this link to every pastor you know and ask him to consider signing it.
  • Share this link to all of your social media pages to help spread the word.
  • Listen to our live discussion with Bill Colley on Magic Valley This Morning on KLIX Newsradio 1310 on Thursday morning, February 7, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Pray for the mercy of God to fall upon the state of Idaho.

Pick Up Your Pen

That may not make sense in a digital day like ours, so let me put it another way; pick up your phone, yes the one in your pocket, on your belt, in your purse, borrow your child’s phone if you have to.

A bill is underway in the Idaho legislature in the House of Representatives side to abolish abortion. There are always right times and ways to communicate with your duly elected representative. Our hope is not in man to do what only God can do, change the heart of man. My hope is that God’s people in the State of Idaho, and all others who love a civil law and value life to pick up the pen and exercise a right that our national fathers put in place to preserve the republic. This form of government affords her citizens to communicate with the government.

Why sit by as a silent spectator? Not today, church. Not today.

I do have opinions about how we should do this, so receive what I suggest as that; personal experience suggestions. My suggestions are aimed primarily to the fellow followers of Christ, as defined by the Holy Bible only, at Eastside Baptist Church in Twin Falls, Idaho.

These are not religious mandates to coherence anyone to act against their conscience, they are simply suggestions to those who are moved by the Spirit of God in what to do now.

  1. You need to be a praying person now. To engage in a political process, you may get worked up and potentially bothered by people who disagree with you.
    • Be prepared to be a steady, bold, patient advocate for babies in the state of Idaho. Not because you love cute little babies and are moved to tears by images of the trauma they experience when weak adults take their lives, but because you fear God.
    • Reverence for anything shy of the Most High is a hope set on a lesser ground, fix your aim upon the Living, Almighty God.
    • Love living in personal holiness.
  2. Inform yourself on the matter.
    • Be a reader of primary documents, not a consumer of reported hearsay.
    • Know who you’re talking to; the representatives and senators are elected neighbors. They are real people, treat them the way you would want others to treat you.
  3. Map out a plan.
    • Gather phone numbers and addresses. I’ll include ways to gather all of this at the end of this post.
    • Write. Re-write. Read. Re-read. Have someone else read what you plan to say and/write. This is no time to be undisciplined with your speech.
      • Strive for brevity. Say as much as you can with as few words as you can. Politicians receive hundreds, maybe thousands of emails a day. Make sure to especially remark with a firm desire of how you want the politician to vote.
      • There is no reason to threaten them with re-election woes if they don’t vote your way. Simply let them know what you want.
      • Don’t be disappointed if you get a form reply that may sound more like a pandering appeasement from someone who didn’t read your letter. Assume the best, assume they did read it and heard you loud and clear. Prepare to act.
  4. Pray for those reading your letter. Pray for our government. Pray that the heavens will rain down righteousness from above and that salvation will spring forth.
  5. Finally, prepare to follow a bill from introduction to completion. Plan to travel to Boise if a public hearing is allowed. People in the room with the representatives and senators will visually express what you’ve been saying with words.

My sample letter to Rep. Heather Scott (hscott@house.idaho.gov) and Rep. John Green (jgreen@house.idaho.gov) who are drafting a bill for consideration to Idaho lawmakers to abolish abortion looks like this. (cut and paste email address into individual emails)

Don’t hesitate to encourage others to do a similar letter. It would be appropriate to even actually pick up a pen and hand-write a letter as well. That kind of letter may actually get read (just get your stamps before the price increases soon).

May God bless his Holy name. Thank you for joining me in encouraging legislators to act now.

Pastors Round Table

Every Thursday from 9:00 a.m – 10:00 a.m (mountain time) the local talk show, Magic Valley This Morning with Bill Colley, hosts an hour long segment called Pastors Round Table. During this hour listeners are encouraged to call in and engage with the pastors. Callers sometimes agree, sometimes disagree, other times they pose questions on the going subject of the day.

I’m thankful to God for the unique opportunity to think publicly with some local pastors on current issues from a biblically theological vantage point. My long time friend, “Bear” Morton, the pastor at Magic Valley Bible Church is usually with me and my new friend, Christopher Folkerts, the pastor at the New Covenant United Reformed Church along with a few other pastors from time to time (John Martinez, John Downs, Mickie Kelly) are articulate, careful, and Biblical thinkers.

There are a few ways you can listen in.

  • Listen on a radio. Tune your AM radio to 1310. KLIX is a local talk show station.
  • Listen online. http://newsradio1310.com/listen-live/popup/
  • Listen from this app. Apps for both ISO and Android. http://newsradio1310.com/app/

This week we will be taking on a few current events happening around the nation that impact the church.

  • Karen Pence vs. Lady Gaga
  • New York State Abortion Bill
  • Texas Religious Freedom of Speech Bill

Of course, because it’s a live show, with live callers, without a screener to prepare us for the questions, we take on whatever comes our way. It’s an invigorating hour, listen in. Share this link with others and invite them to listen as well. They can listen in from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Just Because a Politician Says Something Doesn’t Make It True

I don’t doubt the sincerity of someone like former president Jimmy Carter. His sincerity is no reliable gauge to know the difference between right and wrong.

This clip from a larger interview at Huffington Post is an example of the kind of damage that can be done by someone who has influence, claiming to be a born again Christian, and makes an opinion about serious things about God that are not based on the Bible. If we are going to make claim on what God is like or what he approves or disapproves of we have only one source of authority to make such claims, and it is not based on opinion.

Church, read your bible when you hear claims like this and conclude your position based on what is reliable and unchanging not a sentiment of emotion that can’t be trusted.

The Tale of Two State Governors

Last week, August 16, 2017 Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, signed HB 3391 giving all residents in Oregon the burden of paying for all abortions.

Today, August 25, 2017 South Carolina Governor, Henry McMaster, signed executive order removing the burden from all tax payers of paying for abortions and defunded Planned Parenthood and all abortion providers of all public funds. (Official Executive Order)

I expect several things will begin to happen:

  • Gov. Kate Brown will be declared a hero and Gov. Henry McMaster will be villainized.
  • The state of Oregon’s new law will likely stand because it came through the House. South Carolina’s executive order will be overturned soon because it was an executive order.
  • The state of Oregon will win bids from ESPN, the NBA, the NFL, to host major sporting events guaranteed to bring millions of dollars to the state economy and South Carolina will begin to see the same entities and other businesses “black ball” the state.
  • Christians/Churches in both states will be called upon to endure with grace while given the pleasure of suffering for the sake of the Gospel.
  • Most of the nation will forget about both within a short amount of time and other unprecedented “progressive” actions will become “normal” and historic defenders of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness will continue to be labeled “narrow minded bigots”.

May God raise up a prepared people to speak into this day with gospel clarity. May the church repent of her laziness. May communities hear a faithful preaching people and repent.

When Hate Hates Hate

It didn’t take long to learn after returning from a remote weekend at Camp Perkins in central Idaho that hatred for others was the international headline from the Land of the Free, America. Many articulate articles, columns, interviews, and social media posts find me in agreement with many (Albert Mohler, Russell Moore, local radio, and a conversation with Renee).

I stand with Scripture that calls life a “very good” thing. God’s created order of all people everywhere is a right, holy, and beautiful reflection of the glory of God. It’s been said, and I agree, that the kind of behavior that was upon display in Virginia over the weekend is of a hellish kind. To treat another creation of God with such disrespect and hate is not godly and should be identified by all as such. And many, many people have spoken out against it.

Yet there seems to always be a massive disconnect when it comes to the issue of life in the womb. This kind of hatred is protected by laws, judges, congress, and governments of “civilized” people. Murder in the womb is defended by many of the people that many Christians are quoting on social media. This kind of disconnect is shocking. Think about it… some Hollywood not-a-hero says that what took place in Virginia on Saturday is appalling, and it was, but that same individual will be found on another day defending the right for a child in the womb to be hacked apart limb by limb.

Where is consistency today? Where is the exercise of discipline? Who is speaking today with disciplined consistency? This is what it looks like when hate hates hate?

When there is no pillar of truth in the community, people chase after all kinds of inconsistent voices.

Follower of Christ, discipline yourself with a consistent voice. Don’t confuse your friends by quoting from some Hollywood moral drifter and then within a few moments quote a Bible voice. If there is anything to say in a day like this it requires disciplined consistency. To be a pillar and buttress of truth, which your city needs, be part of the pillar and buttress not a confusing standard that is sure to crumble soon.

What if in your community you quoted your faithful pastor preaching sound timeless truths for all people everywhere rather than a flash of show lights from an industry that has as much hate, if not more, than what was shamefully displayed on the streets of Charlottesville.

There is a remedy to this; the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as defined by the Holy Bible alone.

Can You Call a City a “Welcoming City” While Planned Parenthood Murders Unborn Babies

As long as Planned Parenthood is allowed to do business as usual within the region, no document declaring Twin Falls a “Welcoming City” can be taken seriously. It is a flaw in logic to say we welcome all while at the same time being silent about abortion.

Planned Parenthood is not an official function of the city and neither is the refugee center. My appeal to the city in the “Welcoming City” resolution process is to not consider the actions of one without the other. The city has no jurisdiction over either unless there is direct violation, need for an event permit on public property, or any other matter that requires official city action.

I’m not interested in distracting the city council from their duty. As far as I’m concerned the city officials are best when they are doing their duty. A “Welcoming City” resolution is not their duty. If they pick this matter up as a duty, then I want fairness to all within the city, not just one or select segments of the population to be considered.

While the city works through the drafting of a resolution to declare the city of Twin Falls a “Welcoming City”, please consider writing the Mayor, City Council, and city staff reasonable letters to not present or accept any resolution until the ongoing abortion of babies in the wombs within our city limits is answered. Appeal to them as a reasonable person with compassion.

To declare the city a “Welcoming City” while babies are aborted all year long in silence is a contradiction in responsible logic. The city will likely adopt some kind of a “welcoming city” resolution; shouldn’t it have something to say about the most vulnerable in the city?

The timeline is unknown as to when the city council will act on such a resolution, but when it does, we must be prepared to give a reasonable rebuttal rather than an emotionally charged vent or confused response. Whatever is said in public or private must also be done with respect to authority and honor to our God.

Political Cesspool or Fresh Air?

“let us do evil that good may come?” (Romans 3:8)

What kind of logic is this? flawed logic! Learn more about Darrell Castle HERE.

This interview with Presidential candidate Darrell Castle is a fresh wind across the political cesspool.
  • Church family, please take the time to listen to this interview. Listen with conviction and concern for you, your family, our church and out nation. We may be in a day of distress of who to vote for but voting for the lesser of two evils is no way to respond to the serious day such as this.
  • Pastor friend, please listen to this. This is a candidate (Darrell Castle) I can vote for with good conscience even if the worst case scenario were to come true. We must not let the fear of the government sway our voice or even silence our voice of putting a godly option in front of the LORD’s people. it is really our duty, to be a pillar and buttress of truth and to do so in a day of distress where the nation is being rebuked by God. Obviously, It goes without saying, we don’t tell people who to vote for, but we have a duty to remind them why we vote and what to look for in voting.
It is not too late. There is a better option for me. I plead with you to consider voting for Darrell Castle for president of the United States of America.

Is There No Conscience In The Nation Today?

Just getting caught up on the political news of the day…

Wow!

Donald Trump grew up all of the sudden and then, like a politician driven by popularity, backed off a logical conclusion amid political pressure. Showing he is more a politician than he wants to admit. His initial response to one of the best questions I’ve ever heard Chris Matthews (MSNBC) ask, ever, was a good start at realizing the office of president is serious. (Do not take my comments as support of Donald Trump or Chris Matthews.)

I won’t take the time to rehash the interview from earlier (because I don’t have regular TV or cable)  but it was refreshing to see and hear good journalism questions of serious weight and good to hear an answer with some substance… But just like that – it’s over.

There is reason to stop and consider what’s being asked and how does this get logically answered.

If abortion were to be illegal in America  – who does the law punish? The woman? The doctor? The one financing the abortion? What about the one who got the woman pregnant? It is required of the law to answer this or what’s the point?

Logic demands there has to be some kind of punishment for those who do illegal things or people will do illegal things.

If you don’t punish murderers then expect murder to increase.

Is there no conscience in the nation today?

To say a woman who seeks out an illegal abortion should not have a legal consequence for such actions is unconscionable. That doesn’t mean compassion is not considered for the plight of a difficult situation and the suffering of real pain.

Is abortion murder or not?

Let the nation talk about this for a while. Let conscience be heard again in the land.

Today is “Abortion Day” in Twin Falls

I have a source that is telling me that the Twin Falls Planned Parenthood clinic does not have a doctor to do abortions so they have to bring a doctor in to do this. Planned Parenthood designates these days as “abortion days”.

“Abortion Day” is a day of great contradiction in the city of Twin Falls.

It was mid day on a bitter cold New Year’s Eve that we learned of that bag on the side of the road south of town with a naked baby girl in it; dead. And the right response of any community that hears of this is shocked and outraged.

But today, 27 days later a doctor will arrive at the Twin Falls Planned Parenthood and partner with a mother and “health care” providers to murder babies in the womb. It’s just another day at the office.

This is routine in the city. It happens multiple times a month. Where are the headlines of the babies today that will be murdered by doctors, care givers and mothers partnered together to stop life? Where are the shocked and outraged citizens now?

These are days filled with deep sorrow where life is intentionally taken from an innocent child in the womb of his/her mother. The very place God has ordained as the place where design, forming and developing of life takes place is a place the enemy of God mounts to take battle.

And this battle against life is protected by law and happening in our town on a regular basis. (Other upcoming scheduled “Abortion Days” are Monday, February 1, and Tuesday, February 9.)

What can we do?

  • Keep writing legislators.
  • Vote for politicians who will put a stop to this and defund Planned Parenthood.
  • Elect a county sheriff who will not allow this.
  • Write letters (not rants) to the editor.
  • Share this information with others.
  • Pray with me.
