Backyard Buffet and Some Autumn Solitude

At meal time in my house we are blessed to have guests. Sometimes those guests are birds of a feather or even this frequent visitor that inspired Renee’s entry into the annual Art & Soul of the Magic Valley art contest.

The contest is largely decided by popular vote. Winners are selected by art critics like you and me. The process is rather complicated and requires more voter security than a presidential election process. So let me help you navigate the process. Full instructions for online voting is HERE.

Step one: Register in person at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts headquarters (195 River Vista Place, Twin Falls, Idaho). Voting headquarters is open Monday – Thursday noon – 6 pm and Friday/Saturday noon – 8 pm. At the registration you will be given your individual voter ID and password, voting instructions are online after you get your voter ID and password.

Step two: Everyone voting is required to vote for your top 13 choices. (that’s a lot of choices.) There are 13 categories of art to choose from but you’re not required to vote in each category. You are not required to vote in each category but my suggestion is that you only vote for one in the ceramic category and one in the oil category (but that is only my suggestion, you should do what ever you want to do.)

Step three: Submit your vote before the deadline on April 30.

Step four: Enjoy the great art pieces throughout the city for the next few weeks.

If traveling here from out of town to vote consider a few other things: Shoshone Falls, Chick-fil-A for lunch, Happy Hour with Paul at Sonic from 2pm-4pm everyday of the week and visit us at Eastside Baptist on Sunday if your visit from out of town requires you stay the night on Saturday night.

The Magic Valley Has Art

Silas Thompson has an entry in the Art and Soul of the Magic Valley art contest. This is the largest art contest in the Magic Valley. This is a contest decided by the viewing public. Good thing I took an art appreciation course my first year at university.

For the reader who lives in Twin Falls or will be in Twin Falls before May 3, you too can vote in the contest. Unlike political elections, you will have to have a photo ID to get your ballot. It does take some effort to vote, so I’ve taken the effort to help all appreciators of art by giving you a step by step ‘how-to’ guide in helping Silas win the Art and Soul in the Magic Valley contest.

Voter Registration is at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts building located at 195 River Vista Place in Twin Falls. It is easily accessible off of North Washington (north of the Pole Line/Washington intersection. Follow the yellow flags to the Twin Falls Center for the Arts building.
Once in the Twin Falls Center for the Arts building walk the stairs or ride the elevator to the second floor. Follow the signs to the room to register. Don’t forget your photo ID.
After registering you will be given a ballot with your voter registration number and password. You will need this information.
You are able to vote here, but you will need to know what pieces you are voting for.
Take your ballot home with you (remember it has your registration number and password).
visit www.magicvalleyhasart.simplyvoting.com, enter your registration number and password.

You must vote for five pieces. The entries are not listed numerically or alphabetically, so you will have to search diligently for Silas’ piece, it is number 4-031. If you do not vote for five pieces of art your vote will not count. (It is not required that you vote for the Elementary, Middle School or High School division.)
Be sure to click on ‘Submit’ at the bottom of the website. Then you will be require to ‘confirm’ your vote.

It is no easy task, but then again a $10,000 grand prize is no small reward. Thanks for helping out.

Voting Has Begun for Art and Soul of the Magic Valley

Today was a day full of art in the Magic Valley. Here are a few pictures of the day.

You will need to register, with Identification, at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts (195 River Vista Place, Twin Falls, ID) and receive your voter registration number. Once you have registered you can either vote in person at the Art Center, or online at Magic Valley Has Art. The deadline to vote is Saturday May 3, 2014 at 2PM.

Art and Soul of the Magic Valley starts this week.

Silas Thompson Fine Art has another entry in this year’s Art and Soul of the Magic Valley contest. You can join Silas this Saturday (April 19) from 11:00 AM -2:00 PM at Rudy’s-A Cook’s Paradise in Twin Falls for a live painting to kick off this years Art and Soul contest.

Here’s the information on Silas’ entry #4-031 Golden Winter.

The contest is an annual event in Twin Falls, it begins on Friday, April 18, and concludes on May 3. This is a local contest based on voter participation. The viewing public is invited to vote for their five (5) favorite entries. You have to be present to vote (unlike other elections). There is actually a lot of good art to select from. Enjoy.

Follow these three (3) simple steps for voting:

1) Pre-select your top five entries by viewing all the entries online HERE,
2) Be sure to visit Rudy’s – A Cook’s Paradise (147 Mail Ave. West) and take a picture of yourself to enter my contest (see rules below). And enjoy all the kitchen gadgets while you are there.
3) UPDATED WITH NEW LOCATION FOR REGISTERING: Register in person at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts Magic Valley Arts Council 195 River Vista Place, Twin Falls, ID. You will get further information on the rules for the Art and Soul Contest and how to vote for Silas’ work #4-031 Golden Winter.

(You will have to vote for four (4) other entries, the $10,000.00 grand prize is awarded to the entry with the most votes.)

Obviously you don’t have to vote for Silas’ painting, but if you don’t you will be required to buy five of his paintings before the end of the year (I think that is the way the rules work, I didn’t read all of the fine print so I’m just trying to save you some money while you help Silas out… everyone’s a winner this way.) If you need help voting, just give me a call and I’ll gladly help you out. Be sure to tell everyone you know to vote for entry #4-031.

Post this on your Facebook wall, twitter account, Google +, Pinterest, Instagram, print it out on sheets of paper and staple them to telephone poles, bulletin boards at the grocery store, car windshields at the mall, etc… I will be shamelessly promoting this as the proud dad. You should plan a trip to Twin Falls between April 18 – May 3 just to vote.
