First: I just read about the terror in Las Vegas and watched a short news report. The sound and sight of terror on the loose is unimaginable.
At the base of the human experience I am hard pressed to express my sorrow for those who were running for their lives mixed with sympathy to the families of (at current) 58 shot dead at an open air late night concert in Las Vegas, NV.
The right response for me at the moment is met with prayer to God for mercy upon all survivors and mercy upon the families of those learning of the fate of their loved ones. I will hold my other thoughts tightly to myself for now and let the first response complete its work before I move away from the sorrow.
There is nothing entertaining about real sights and sounds of live open fire upon a mass of people.
Wait for it… the finger pointing will come soon enough. But greater here, wait for the kindness of God to come upon a people struck with terror and shock.
O God, Let your mercy fall upon us.
A Note to Fathers: Fathers, if you haven’t already, prepare to speak to your children today about the tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas. Gather them close to you and speak. Look them in the eyes when you speak to them about the events of the day. I don’t think they need to see video or audio of the terror. Be sure to pray with your children. Be sure to hug your children. Don’t be afraid to discuss at some point soon about what you would do if you and your family were ever in a situation where terror were to break out like this. Pray with your children for those directly impacted by the terror, ask God to shower mercy upon all.
