Obey God Rather than Man

On August 18, 2024, the Eastside Baptist Church introduced a draft resolution for consideration by the congregation to adopt. Within a few moments, an adjustment of a few words and a few grammatical corrections a unanimous to answer a tyrannical government that wants to force daughters by the “abominable practice of including women in conscription. The answer was a resounding, unanimous, yes! Amen!

Congress has not included women in the required draft, but every indication is that they want this. Irregardless of who is elected in the fall, expect another attempt to pass this legislation. Members of Eastside Baptist are ready with our answer.

Following is the finished draft of the resolution.

A proclamation regarding the abominable practice
of including women in conscription,
that is, the compulsory enlistment for state military service.
Colloquially referred to as the Selective Service,
or the draft,
conscription is referenced in the Selective Service Act of 1917 which
authorized the federal government to temporarily expand the military
through compulsive mustering.
This act required all men between the ages of 21 (18 as of 1918) to 45 to register for
military service.
As far back as 1945 and as recently as 2024, US presidents and the US Congress
have attempted to amend this act to include women.
The following proclamations are representative
of God’s people at Eastside Baptist Church
and serve as notice of intention to
practice Godly dissent in the face of tyranny.

We affirm and deny the following propositions:

Article I: Women in the military
WE AFFIRM that the word of God declares it to be contrary to righteousness, justice,
and goodness through the law given down through Moses, applied through general
equity, for women to put on the martial attire of a man and that it is likewise unlawful for
women to be conscripted into the military, combat or otherwise.

WE AFFIRM the duty of warrior is given distinctly to men of fighting age.

WE DENY that it is the duty, nature, or responsibility of women to protect their countries
in the office of warrior.
Genesis 14:14; Numbers 1:2-3; 26; 31:3-4; 32:25-27; Deuteronomy 22:5; Joshua 1:14;
6:3; 8:3; Judges 7:1-8; 20:8-11; 1 Samuel 8:11-13; 13:2; 1 Chronicles 21:5, 23-24; 2
Chronicles 25:5-6; 26:11-14; Nehemiah 4:13-14; Jeremiah 51:30

Article II: Cowardice
WE AFFIRM that it is cowardice for a nation or individual men to cause women to stand
in the office of warrior. And that cowards have their portion in the lake that burns with
fire and sulfur, which is the second death; that eternal punishment, Hell.

WE DENY that it is affirming, courageous, or kind to women to treat them like men and

WE DENY that men ought to behave like women.
Genesis 5:2; 1:27; Numbers 1:2–3; Judges 4:8-9; Revelation 21:8, 1 Samuel 8:11; Isaiah
19:16; Jeremiah 50:37; Nahum 3:13; 1 Peter 3:7;

Article III: Equality
WE AFFIRM that men and women are ontologically (fundamentally) equal (regarding
being as image-bearers).

WE DENY that men and women are economically (functionally) equal (regarding
activity and roles).
Genesis 5:2; 1:27; Galatians 3:27–29; Galatians 4:6; Colossians 3:10-11; 1 Tim 2:8–15

Article IV: Disobedience to Tyranny
WE AFFIRM that resistance to tyranny is obedience to God.

WE DENY that God’s people are to blindly follow the godless edicts of a prideful,
selfish, and unbelieving government or a congressional act of the same stripe.
Exodus 14:27-28; Deuteronomy 6:15-57; Psalm 2:2-3; 94:20; 118:9; 119:126; 136:13-18;
Ezekiel 22:29-30; Daniel 6:11; Daniel 3:16; Acts 5:29 ; 14:19; Romans 12:17-21; 1
Corinthians 7:23

Article V: Natural Law
WE AFFIRM that natural law itself cries out that women are vessels designed for the
giving of life not the systematic taking away of life.

WE DENY any value of the zeitgeistic retardation of the LGQBT+ and abortion agendas
and their logical continuation in female conscription. All three ideologies are direct
attacks on women’s distinctions and their glory.
Genesis 1:27; 5:12; Exodus 23:19; 1 Samuel 8:11-13

Article VI: Support Roles and Self-Defence
WE AFFIRM that certain martial support roles are appropriate for women and that there
is liberty of conscience regarding some non combatant jobs.

WE DENY that these roles shall be conscripted or compulsory.
-and-
WE AFFIRM that women are entitled to the certain unalienable rights which they are
endowed by their Trinitarian Creator to protect themselves and those around them.
WE DENY that the act of self defense is militaristic in nature.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Judges 4; Psalm 33:12

Article VII: Just War
WE AFFIRM that there are just and legitimate reasons for nations to go to war and that
Christians may participate in said just wars.

WE DENY that all wars are just.
Exodus 22:2 Numbers 21:21-24; Joshua 5:13; I Chronicles 21:16; Proverbs 20:18; 24:6;
Ecclesiastes 3:8; Revelation 19:1-5

CONCLUSION:

WHEREAS we value the glory and beauty of our wives and daughters above the state’s immoral
and selfish ambitions,
-and-
WHEREAS we love our neighbors as ourselves,
-and-
WHEREAS we are “not [to] be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather,
[we Fear] the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28)
THEREFORE, we are resolved to defend our wives and daughters and not to allow them or the
wives and daughters of our neighbors, who may likewise dissent, to be conscripted into the
United States Armed Forces and we are opposed to any such future measures regardless of their
successful or legal passage through Congress or presidential executive edict either in time of war
or peace because such acts or actions would be clean contrary to the Law of God, the conscience
of His people, and the good of our land.
-and-
THEREFORE according to the great tradition of Christendom and our beloved nation we are in
agreement with our fathers before us that when the state commands that which God forbids, or
forbids that which God commands, we are to obey God rather than man.

Our Christian conscience binds us

Utah/Idaho SBC Resolution
on Abolishing Abortion

  1. Whereas, the word of God, the Holy Bible, is a lamp to our feet (Psalm 119:105), its words are sweeter than honey to our mouth (Psalm 119:103), the law of God is perfect, the testimony of the Lord is sure, the fear of the Lord is clean, the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous (Psalm 19:7-9), and that this Holy Scripture, as given by inspiration of God, is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:14-17), and
  2. Whereas, from the moment of fertilization, all humans are created in God’s image by, through, and for Jesus to the glory of God, and all souls belong to Him (Genesis 1:27; 4:1; 21:2; Isaiah 7:14; Colossians 1:16; Romans 11:36; Ezekiel 18:4), and
  3. Whereas, all humans display His divine worth, power, and attributes – they possess equal and objective worth before God regardless of means of conception, ethnicity, age, size, mental development, physical development, gender, or contribution to society (Romans 1:19-20; Genesis 1:27; 9:6, Matthew 18:6), and
  4. Whereas, God, who is above all rule and authority, establishes all governing authorities as His avenging servants to punish the evildoer and commands these authorities to judge justly (Colossians 2:15; Psalm 82; Proverbs 20:10; Romans 13:4) and,
  5. Whereas, over the past forty-eight years in the United States alone there have been more than sixty million reported inhumane acts of induced abortions (actions to intentionally stop an otherwise natural birth) of fellow image-of-God-bearing humans, and
  6. Whereas, the Baptist Faith and Message, according to Article XV, affirms that children “from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord”; and further affirms that Southern Baptists are mandated by Scripture to “speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death,” and
  7. Whereas, the messengers of the 2021 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting overwhelmingly passed, the Southern Baptist Resolution on Abolishing Abortion,

Now, let it be

  1. Resolved, that we, the messengers of the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Meridian, Idaho October 29, 2021, agree with God that no human institution, government, rule, or authority has permission from God to allow the intentional shedding of innocent blood and we reject any position that challenges the Holy and Righteous standard of Justice (Genesis 3:1; John 8:44; Romans 2:14-15; 2 Corinthians 11:3; Colossians 2:15;Psalm 94:6; Isaiah 10:1-2; Proverbs 24:11; Psalm 82:1-4), and be it further
  2. Resolved, that we affirm that induced abortions of preborn children is a crime against humanity and must be punished equally under the law, and be it further
  3. Resolved, that as Southern Baptists we will engage, with God’s help, in establishing equal justice and protection for preborn children by calling upon Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson and the rest of the Utah State House, and Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams and the rest of the Utah Senate to pass, sign, and enforce legislation that would fully, finally, and immediately abolish the heinous act of abortion in Utah immediately without exception or compromise, and be it further
  4. Resolved, that as Southern Baptists we will engage, with God’s help, in establishing equal justice and protection for preborn children by calling upon Idaho Governor Brad Little, Idaho House Speaker Scott Bedke, the rest of the Idaho House, Idaho Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Winder, and the rest of the Idaho Senate to pass, sign, and enforce legislation that would fully, finally, and immediately abolish the heinous act of abortion in Idaho immediately without exception or compromise, and be it further
  5. Resolved, that as Southern Baptists we will engage, with God’s help, in establishing equal justice and protection for preborn children by calling upon President Joe Biden, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the U.S. House of Representatives, and U.S. Senate President Pro Tempore Charles Schumer and the rest of the U.S. Senate to pass, sign, and enforce legislation that would fully, and finally, and immediately abolish the heinous act of abortion in the United States immediately without exception or compromise, and be it further
  6. Resolved that we call upon pastors and churches to use their God-ordained gifts of preaching, teaching, and leading our communities to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor — yes, even our pre-born neighbor — as if he/she were our own life, and be it finally
  7. Resolved, that we stand ready to rescue those being led to the slaughter motivated by our love for God by means that are pleasing to Him, so help us God (Proverbs 24:11).

Mormonism is Not Evangelical

In two weeks Southern Baptists will gather in Houston, TX for our annual meeting. This resolution will be submitted for consideration. I think it is a helpful resolution. It brings clarity about how Southern Baptist view the evangelical and Mormon confusion that surfaced during this past political season that brought confusion. There are parts of the resolution I  would like to have seen speak with more clarity but it is helpful. I would have liked the resolution to identify Mormonism with the classification of cult, but the North American Mission Board makes this clear in the comparison examination of the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

Resolution: On the Mormon Church – Mormonism is Not Evangelical (by Dwight McKissic and Tim Rogers)

WHEREAS, Historically, Southern Baptists have embraced Christian brotherhood and cooperation with other evangelicals and

WHEREAS, We have witnessed in recent years the portrayal of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as Christian and termed an evangelical group and

WHEREAS, We have witnessed in recent years an increased call of denominations as barriers to be overcome on the road to unity and

WHEREAS, our convention along with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a long history of affirming the sanctity of life and

WHEREAS, The Word of God, the Bible, is the complete, trustworthy, and inerrant written record of God’s revelation of Himself to man (John 16:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) and

WHEREAS, The Bible reveals God as the only true, eternal Creator and self-sufficient, self-existent Sovereign of the universe, one God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 43:10-11; 44:6-8) and

WHEREAS, Jesus Christ is the unique and eternal Son of God, the incarnate Word, who was with God and was God, and was supernaturally conceived of the Holy Spirit, without sexual relations, born of the virgin Mary (John 1:1-18; Isaiah 7:14-16; 9:6-7; Matthew 1:18-21) and

WHEREAS, True Biblical unity can only be realized in the bond of truth, and never at the expense of Biblical truth; Now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That the Southern Baptist Convention meeting, June 11-13, 2013, in Houston, Texas, urges the Boards and Agencies of the Southern Baptist Convention to maintain the historic position of Southern Baptists as they cooperate with various other groups in appropriate evangelistic enterprises, and on issues of justice, morality, and religious liberty both at home and abroad; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That such efforts not commit Southern Baptists to any organizational or long-term relationship which would risk possible compromise of historic distinctives or the unique witness of Southern Baptists to the world; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Southern Baptists affirm the finality, sufficiency, and exclusivity of the Christian Gospel and of biblical revelation as the sole source of saving truth, “For there is no other name under heaven given among man by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; Any group that denies the sufficiency and exclusivity of the Christian Gospel and of biblical revelation as the sole source of saving truth, while cooperating with on issues of morality, social justice, and religious liberty, will not be a group Southern Baptists cooperate with on evangelistic endeavors, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; We call on all Southern Baptists to cooperate with all groups on issues of morality, social justice, and religious liberty while maintaining the understanding that the term “evangelical” is reserved only for those who affirm the exclusivity of salvation alone, by faith alone, through grace alone, in Christ alone, according to the scriptures alone;

AND BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED; Any group that adds to the exclusivity of Jesus Christ as the eternal son of God, or denies the work of the Holy Trinity, is not considered Christian, or part of an evangelical belief system.
